The Adobe Lightroom update that many of us have been waiting on is available in both Windows and Mac versions.

In a previous article, I mentioned how Adobe had apologised to their customers following the October 2015 update of Lightroom. The main source of complaint was the revised, or “dumbed down”, version of the Import dialogue. Well in this latest update (Lightroom 2015.3 or 6.3) they have restored the previous version of the Import experience which will be both good news and bad news.

For those of us who have been using Lightroom for many years and become accustomed to the Import experience, the removal of many features in the October update caused consternation. So this November 2015 update is a welcome return to the previous Import dialogue but, for those who were new to Lightroom, or coming over to Lightroom from Aperture, the Import dialogue can be rather daunting. Its daunting characteristic comes from the fact that it has so many features. It is not simply a place to copy your photos from memory card to computer – it offers so much more. Or at least it did until October 2015! I do understand how confusing this Import dialogue can be and it is something we step through in all of our courses, including our Tuscany workshops.

The update does have other additions too, including bug fixes as well as additional support for new cameras and lenses. Here is the full list from Adobe:-

Fixed Bugs:

As a photographer who processes thousands of images, I welcome the U turn. It is very unusual for billion Dollar organisations to listen so intently to their customers, admit mistakes and quickly take steps to apologise and remedy the situation. Maybe a lesson here for other organisations?
