Venice Nov 2022Millions of artists, photographers and writers have scrutinised and described every beautiful aspect of Venice. It is almost impossible to be original in Venice. My Venice photography workshop does not pretend or even wish to be original. My Venice photography workshop is all about you learning the skills and techniques for photographing some of the iconic scenes of Venice as well as seeking out the details in the less trodden areas of Venice.

Venice floats proudly between the sea and sky just off the coast of reality. It is the most exquisite cliche.

Join us in November 2022 on this guided and instructional workshop. Call me for a chat or book now with a refundable deposit.

Description

Refund GuaranteeJoin us in Venice for an inspirational 5 days of photography on our exquisite Venice photography workshop. Slow down your photography and take a moment to learn new techniques that will last a lifetime. You will come home with an enviable mixture of photographs including the classic Venice shots as well as some unique detail images.

This Venice photography workshop is five days of guidance and detailed instruction. We will visit all the classic locations and you will be shown exactly how to take the best photograph of every scene. You will also learn how to see the details of Venice; the myriad of textures, patterns and colours that make Venice unique.

Read through the description of this Venice photography workshop and feel free to contact me (Martin) if you have any questions.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

Throughout this workshop, we will learn by sharing information and experiences. I am present throughout and will offer guidance and instruction at all levels.

If you are new to photography, learning photography or an accomplished photographer, you will enjoy and gain a lot from this workshop.

Some of the skills and techniques you will learn and practice, include: –

  • Shooting in Raw rather than JPEG

  • Long exposures using neutral density filters (ND filters)
  • Using a polarising filter

  • Exposure blending to balance lighting conditions

  • Composition
  • Composing and processing strong black & white photographs
  • Shooting and creating HDR images
  • Post-processing in Lightroom and Photoshop

YOU WILL LEARN HOW TO GET LOST IN VENICE

Being lost in Venice is one of the best places to be.

This list is a good guess, but the exact course content will be shaped by the individual needs of the course.

POST-PRODUCTION SKILLS

You will learn how to use Adobe Lightroom. Lightroom is not an intuitive application and causes much misery during the learning process. You will learn to use Lightroom by importing, developing and exporting a selection of photographs in an efficient manner.

Additionally, you will learn some techniques and skills in Photoshop. The exact skills will depend upon your needs and the type of images the workshop produces. You will learn how to use Photoshop to blend two or more exposures to produce a photograph with balanced lighting.

CLASSIC IMAGES OF VENICE

You cannot return home from Venice without having photographed the classic views – so we will shoot the clichés. You will come home with photographs of gondolas, Piazza San Marco, churches, sunrise, sunset, Grand Canal and six million people posing with selfie sticks. I am convinced that a selfie stick is required before being allowed on a gondola.

TRIP TO BURANO

Burano is an orgy of colour. The colours are loud and gorgeous. You will need sunglasses and a polarising filter. It is highly unlikely that you will shoot an image for black and white conversion.

The small island of Burano is a short boat trip across the lagoon. The cost of transport to and from Burano is included in your workshop.

IT IS ILLEGAL IN VENICE

It is important to remember that it is illegal for any photographer to visit Venice and not visit Burano!

WHAT TO BRING

This list only includes the absolute essentials to make your photography experience the best it can be. You need to make your own decisions about personal items to bring. This may seem obvious, but sometimes it needs said: –

  • Camera (good start)
  • Memory cards and batteries. Bring one more than you think you will need

  • Tripod. Make sure it is packed in your suitcase if you are flying

  • Adapters for your electrical plugs (sockets)
  • Insurance to cover your camera gear. Your camera equipment is entirely your responsibility whilst attending the workshop

  • Filters – a polarising filter and at least one ND filter. A 6-stop or a 10-stop ND filter is good. Contact me if you want to ask about filters

  • Cold weather clothes for the early mornings

  • Good walking shoes

  • Laptop is useful but not essential

  • Mobile phone. Useful for when you get lost

You will be walking a lot during the workshop. Keep this in mind and aim not to have extra gear that you may never use but will end up carrying all day.
