DxO recently announced that they will be releasing a new version of the Nik Collection of filters in 2018.
I have written articles about the Nik Collection of filters a couple of times now; once to let you all know that Google was giving them away free and the second time to let you know that DxO had bought them from Google. The latter of these two articles was the one that I consider to be the most exciting news.
I predicted that the purchase of the Nik Collection by DxO could only be beneficial for the filters and therefore beneficial for all us loyal photographers. You see, when Google acquired them and dropped the price and ultimately gave them away free of charge, I worried that Google had no intention of ever developing the filter set. Unfortunately, I was right. It appears that Google only bought Nik to get their hands on Snapseed. Now don’t get me wrong, I do think that Google has done a wonderful job of developing Snapseed but unfortunately, it was at the expense of the Nik Collection of filters.
Anyway, let’s not linger on the past. At the end of 2017, DxO bought the Nik Collection of filters from Google and I was one very happy photographer. I have used DxO software and I know how much research and development the French-based company pour into photography software. I was therefore in no doubt that they would develop the filters and make a damn good job of them too. Well, we will soon be able to find out if they do make a good job of them.
DxO released a statement on 22 December 2017, stating that they were actively developing the Nik collection and will be releasing an update in spring of 2018. I can’t wait!

My only concern about this is the cost. I doubt very much that DxO will offer these filters free but I do consider this filter collection to be the best that has ever been produced. If the cost is reasonable, I for one will definitely be updating.

Are you a fool? They will never release Nik its competition to their own junk plug-ins and way better.
It’s not competition if it belongs to them. Competition comes from external sources. DxO now own the NIK filters and will release the update under their own name. So how can this be competition?
